In recent times, the suitability of the value test according to Impairment of Assets (IAS 36) as a controlling approach has been discussed. Jörg Schumann examines the possibilities and limitations of a convergence between Impairment of Assets and value-oriented controlling. He develops a system of area- and company value-oriented controlling, consisting of area-specific company valuation and performance measurement, and analyzes IAS 36 from the perspective of company valuation. On this basis, the author discusses whether and to what extent the Value in Use can serve as area-specific company value for internal purposes and discusses an adequate retrospective and prospective performance measurement after company acquisitions, taking goodwill into account.
