AAC helps people with severe communication impairments to communicate effectively. As an alternative to spoken language, various aids, techniques, and strategies such as gestures, signs, pictorial symbols, or electronic aids are used. This resource provides an overview of the different intervention options for AAC and is practice-oriented with many case studies and extensive therapy materials. From a linguistic perspective, it is the first German-language textbook that is not pedagogically but linguistically oriented. It is patient-centered and offers tools to adapt the approach to the individual person and their social environment. Furthermore, it is beneficial for affected individuals and their relatives, as affected individuals learn how to use AAC, while relatives learn how to collaborate with them.
