The author examines both theoretically and empirically the support relationships and expectations of older people from Italy and Serbia/Montenegro residing in the city of Zurich. In the empirical section, she presents the living and household situation of older migrants through an analysis of census data, which is further deepened by expert interviews. Qualitative interviews with seniors from Italy and Serbia/Montenegro, as well as with the second generation, form the core of the study. The results are interpreted against the backdrop of migration and family sociology approaches. From this, the author derives conclusions regarding the potential for family support and the need for external support services. Additionally, further topics and questions are highlighted.
