As with all manual therapy techniques, great importance is placed on palpation diagnosis in osteopathic training. The Atlas familiarizes readers with the method of surface palpation, through which anatomical structures are felt with the hands based on visual criteria—both in healthy and pathological conditions. Over 800 photos demonstrate surface palpation along with explanatory text. Additional topographical images from the Sobotta Anatomy Atlas are included. All visible and palpable structures of a body area are presented with a brief description of access: bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, and vessels.
