Speech disorders due to brain damage (dysarthrias) are generally considered difficult to treat and pose a particular challenge for therapists. Additionally, the lack of therapeutic concepts and approaches contributes to the fact that the therapy of dysarthrias is rarely taken into account in everyday practice. This book presents a practice-oriented therapy concept for dysarthrias. The authors provide an introduction to the issue of dysarthria, explain the goals and principles of therapy, and illustrate the treatment path based on the eight most important speech parameters. These parameters include: breathing, phonation, facial musculature, diadochokinesis, reflexes, articulation, intelligibility, and prosody/speech rate. Finally, an overview of the effectiveness of speech therapy and possible communication aids is provided.
