Eugen Klöpfer (March 10, 1886 - March 3, 1950), the great actor of the Weimar Republic and General Director of the Volksbühne Berlin during the Third Reich, is now almost unknown. His case exemplifies the opportunistic behavior of many artists who somehow arranged themselves with the realities of life in the Nazi state in order to continue their careers. Due to his representative position and his engagement with the regime, Nazi research still views him as a pronounced sympathizer of Nazism. But was he really? This dissertation explores this question and arrives at contradictory results.
