Midwife-led clinical care models exist internationally in various forms. This study examines the newly introduced care model of midwife-led birth centers in Germany through a prospective controlled study. The aim is to gain insights into the effects of the midwife-led birth center model compared to the usual physician-led delivery model in Germany. Healthy pregnant women are cared for exclusively by midwives in a clinical setting during pregnancy and childbirth. The primary endpoints of the study are maternal and neonatal outcomes, medical and midwifery interventions, breastfeeding behavior, as well as maternal physical and mental well-being after birth. Additionally, the women's attitudes towards relevant aspects of the experienced care during childbirth will be explored.
