The aim of this volume is to reconcile computer-assisted readings with philological-hermeneutic text interpretation or to make them mutually beneficial. In this sense, the analyses presented here on the early modern pastoral novel, using Honoré d'Urfé's five-volume work L'Astrée (1607-1627) as an example, combine the methods of close and distant reading and also apply the technique known as topic modeling. The two authors are explicitly not only concerned with quantitative results, but primarily with content-related literary studies.
