Development of a solid understanding of statistical methods with practical relevance

This exercise book complements the textbook "Statistics for Economists" as well as the accompanying formula collection "Statistical Formulas and Tables" by Josef Bleymüller and Rafael Weissbach. The chapters are organized according to the textbook and provide material to gradually work through the topics and concepts covered.

Detailed solutions are provided for all 140 exercises. The design of the exercises aims for comprehensive coverage of the content taught in the textbook while considering increasing difficulty and complexity. Applied statistics as a field of study is inextricably linked to fundamental mathematical techniques and can therefore be ideally acquired through active practice.

It is intended that many exercises have an authentic context but contain fictional data to provide potential content motivation for the statistical methods and concepts while simplifying calculations in many instances. Thus, the focus is on developing a solid understanding of statistical methods with practical relevance.

Prof. Dr. Josef Bleymüller was the director of the Institute for Econometrics and Economic Statistics at the University of Münster. Prof. Dr. Rafael Weissbach holds the chair in Statistics and Econometrics at the Institute for Economics at the University of Rostock, where Dr. Achim Dörre also works as a research associate.
