The sustainable significance of early relationship experiences for later socio-emotional development has been scientifically supported by attachment research for many years. Depending on how consistently or contradictorily these early experiences were perceived, the so-called working models of attachment in adults vary and are shaped by characteristics such as internalized security, mental resources, unconscious breaks, or inconsistencies. Attachment diagnostics for capturing attachment-relevant unconscious processes are conducted through two interview methods, which Anna Buchheim describes in detail, illustrating their clinical significance with impressive case examples from her own practice and relating them to current studies.
