In psychoanalysis, just like in other sciences, there is an unfortunate tendency to disengage from everyday communication through specialized terminology and retreat into a professional ivory tower. This small dictionary aims to serve as a linguistic bridge to interested individuals. It provides a comprehensible overview of psychoanalytic terms. Many of these terms have entered the general vocabulary (for example, hysteria, mania, projection, repression); however, this has led to dilution, distortion, and misunderstandings—this dictionary aims to clarify these issues. Through various cross-references, it fosters an understanding of the complex interconnections within the psychoanalytic framework.
