There is still strong competition among schools in the field of psychotherapy, not only regarding patient care but also concerning what is considered conceptually and therapeutically appropriate and effective. This book focuses on a comparison between the two most internationally significant approaches: cognitive behavioral therapies and psychodynamic therapies. Central concepts in both therapeutic methods, such as ideas about the unconscious, relationship patterns, therapeutic approaches, and also views of human nature, are historically derived and related to one another. The implications for therapeutic practice are also addressed.
