The textbook not only presents individual educational approaches but also highlights the connections in educational thinking. Much of what we consider correct today was already thought of a hundred years ago. Some ideas that we view as new today were tested in a more consistent manner in earlier reform projects. It is important to understand where these ideas come from and how they were and are socially embedded. Many educational concepts that were originally not aimed at early childhood are worth examining for this field.
