Do concepts like resilience, empowerment, and self-organization provide added value for working with refugees? Or can they even cause harm, as some critical voices claim? Is there a space within this tension that can be utilized to provide helpful support? If so, what influencing factors exist? Are they inherent to the individual or influenced by the environment, static or variable? Significant life events, especially of a traumatic nature, leave their marks. They remain as memories, even when they no longer have a burdensome impact on the present. However, overcoming challenges and surviving dangers also leads to personal growth. Therefore, it is not about emerging unchanged from these experiences. What matters is whether it is possible to develop new perspectives. Refugees must rebuild their lives in exile.
