Joseph Rieforth and Gabriele Graf merge two recognized approaches: depth psychology and systemic therapy. The synthesis, known as psychodynamic-systemic therapy, examines psychological burdens and disorders within their social and biographical context, integrating both conscious and unconscious aspects. It promotes the autonomy of the patient or client and allows for the application of various intervention forms. The authors demonstrate how this new combination can create a foundation for changed feelings and actions of the patient or client within a supportive therapeutic relationship. Through the development of narrative structures, new stories, interpretations, and realities emerge. With a great deal of creativity and appreciation, patients and clients are given the opportunity to understand their current psychological conflict.
