The TIA Portal from Siemens is an engineering framework that allows all planning and production processes for task-oriented applications to be designed from a single screen. The TIA Portal offers, among other things, procedural programming with Step 7 V14. This style is still used worldwide in practice today, although many PLC programmers now express a desire for object-oriented programming (OOP). In the future, the object-oriented approach will also gain significant influence among controller programmers. Despite the limitations due to the manufacturer's still unavailable implementations, this book demonstrates how function blocks can be implemented under the paradigms of OOP. Other features such as data encapsulation, interface inheritance, and polymorphism are also topics covered in this book.
