The artist group "Kölner Progressive" played an important socio-political role in the Rhineland from the end of World War I until the beginning of the Hitler dictatorship. This work highlights the development of the artist group and, through formal analytical methodology, examines the stylistic orientation of the group concerning its roots and influences, its various movements, and ultimately its impact. It becomes evident that "Rhenish Constructivism," which can be more or less politically motivated, represents the main current. The "hard core" of this direction included Franz W. Seiwert, Heinrich Hoerle, Gerd Arntz, and Otto Freundlich. Other facets in the spectrum of styles can be found in New Objectivity, Surrealism, and Abstraction. The group had the vision of creating a better society.
