On Iconographic Program and Stylistic Classification; Amelie-Claire von Platen, The Former Teutonic Order Church of St. Mary on the Island of Mainau. On the Iconography of the Interior Decoration; Simone Meyder, The Teutonic Order Commandery of Rixheim. Johann Caspar Bagnato as Architect of a Maison Plaisance in Upper Alsace. They provide a representative insight into the often very high-quality construction activities of the Order in the Middle Ages and modern times, in both urban and rural contexts. The Order not only represented a factor of possession and power in the German Empire but was also very aware of its special social status as a noble institution and the associated representation tasks.
