The present book advocates for the art of improvisation in an area of our lives where we may be most inclined to exclude it: technology. In technology, we seek security and control over the processes at play. Under the dominance of this goal, technology takes on the character of a system, where the safeguarding of the material, energetic, and infrastructural enabling conditions of the respective technologies, as well as the mechanisms for isolating technical processes from potential disturbances, are amplified. Consequently, reflections on technology predominantly focus on its systemic nature. Although the significance of play and tinkering for innovation processes, as well as for the processes of appropriating technologies, is evident, the playful aspects of technology remain unconsidered. Yet, it is precisely the unfolding of this.
