The 'social' is a politically and theoretically questionable category. While it forms the central hub of the historical-political formation of the welfare state arrangement and its (social) educational institutions, in (more recent) political philosophy and theory, it is often discussed, if at all, primarily as a counterpart to politics or the political. Following this interpretive pattern, the currently frequently discussed "erosion," "liquefaction," or even more so "the death of the social" would have to be understood positively – namely as a release of the political. However convincing this interpretation may seem at first glance, it raises several questions. Particularly since contemporary analyses operating under the term 'post-democracy' make a simple assumption of politicization appear questionable.
