With Émile Durkheim and Max Weber, sociology does not begin in the strictest sense; rather, their works already contain fundamental considerations that mark the beginning of a sociology of the profession. Both attribute a key role to the category of profession in the differentiation and establishment of modern society, albeit with different arguments.
