Product details

Agamben, Derrida, Menke, and Nancy criticize law as a justified violence that legitimizes itself through its application. The decision of the law excludes justice. In contrast, this work emphasizes, through historical, philosophical, literary, and sociological considerations, the plural textuality of law, which cannot be reduced to the wording of legal commands. Post-structuralism, in its critique of the perpetual repetition of the violence of the founding of law, does not move beyond the past and instead proposes various versions of a future messianic recovery of justice. The book offers an alternative by highlighting the present operation with practical constraints and possibilities that law must enable under conditions of uncertainty.
