One of the cities in Europe most affected by climate change is the Italian lagoon city of Venice. Using the competition criteria of the European Green Capital Awards (EGCA), Veronika Howe explores possible steps for sustainable urban development that could integrate the major challenges in Venice, such as mass tourism and migration to the mainland. The dialogue between the city administration, residents, and local businesses plays a crucial role in making information about environmental impacts in urban planning transparent and creating a foundation for binding agreements.
