When Tocotronic recorded their first single in 1994, nobody could have guessed that they would become one of the most successful German rock bands. Several hit singles and five chart albums later, there would still be no book about the inner workings of the Tocotronic phenomenon - if it weren't for Thees Uhlmann, who took the trouble to keep a diary during the extensive live tours of 1999 for the K.O.O.K. record. From an insider's perspective, Uhlmann draws an authentic picture of life on tour between tears, alcohol, motorway service areas and refusal to eat. However, no monuments are erected here for musical superstars. Perhaps because these recordings were never intended as a book but as a fleeting Internet document, Uhlmann succeeds in presenting the protagonists of his unconventional stories - Arne Zank, Jan Müller and Dirk von Lowtzow - primarily as characters.
