Ralph Schock describes a childhood in the 1950s. It revolves around marbles, fevers, home slaughtering, medicine cabinets, children's handkerchiefs, goulash cannons, radios, and the 1955 referendum on the reintegration of Saarland into the Federal Republic. The core of these stories is as present and yet as distant and foreign as an insect trapped in a piece of amber: fragments of memory that are enclosed but still visible. Grains of sand around which, like in a shell, material gradually accumulates, encapsulating them and allowing them to grow.
