Product details

The images of the trial and execution of the Ceaușescus on December 25, 1989, etched themselves as a dark negative of the velvet revolutions deep into the collective unconscious of several generations of Western television viewers. The 20th anniversary provided the occasion for extensive on-site research. The interviews with eyewitnesses, including the general who betrayed the Ceaușescus and the soldier who shot them, create a panorama of the downfall of one of the most absurd and totalitarian regimes in world history. The resulting re-enactment of this last European show trial by Milo Rau and the International Institute of Political Murder was controversially discussed during the Romanian previews. "The Last Days of the Ceaușescus" gathers, alongside the trial transcript and the conversation records of the Romanian Revolution, a wealth of documents from the research.
