While Tucholsky, Ossietzky, Pfemfert, and Weinert were able to scrutinize the Weimar Republic in the leftist press, Erich Mühsam, widely known as the sharpest critic of national megalomania, was condemned to silence in Bavarian fortress imprisonment. What remained for him were his private diaries, in which he entrusted everything that could help him remain human under inhumane conditions. Thus, Mühsam became a witness and chronicler of a penal regime in which he already sensed the essence of the rising National Socialism. The historically critical edition of the "Diaries" is edited by Chris Hirte and Conrad Piens. It will be published in 15 volumes by Verbrecher Verlag and simultaneously as an online edition with a comprehensive commentary apparatus. Additionally, the "Diaries in individual issues" will also be released as an e-book edition.
