The drug-addicted detective Joseph Weynberg mourns his love Hedy. She is dead. He is assigned to shadow a woman, Maude Anandin. This femme fatale resembles Hedy like a clone. Weynberg develops an obsession with Maude, who is in trouble and is getting closer to death in her excessive lifestyle. People are dying. Weynberg is unintentionally entangled in these deaths. Maude and Weynberg must flee their nameless hometown, which they have never left before. They want to go to New Qingdao, a place they hope will offer them refuge and perspective.
