Product details

To bring an end to a costly liberation war, five UN members (the USA, the UK, France, Germany, and Canada) jointly achieved Namibia's independence through free elections under UN supervision from 1977 to 1990. They acted as mediators between the UN, South Africa, the liberation movement SWAPO, and neighboring states in southern Africa. The author is the only one among the Western diplomats who played a significant role in this highly dramatic negotiation process and was involved in all essential steps. He alone, along with his access to previously unavailable source material, is able to provide this contribution to the historically decisive process for the establishment of the state of Namibia for the first time. An exciting report for anyone interested in African politics and a general lesson for those engaged in diplomacy.
