The reason for the journey described in the following lines was initially the exploration of high mountain valleys located not far from the 33rd degree of southern latitude, extending northward toward the highest mountain in both Americas, Aconcagua, as it is currently known. This journey took place during the southern summer months of 1893/94 and 1894/95, both times starting from Europe.
