The Berlin dialect stands in the middle between High German and Low German. However, due to the influence of neighboring dialects, it is so permeated with various foreign elements that one cannot speak of any regularity in relation to the aforementioned main dialects. Many words are used only in their High German form, while others, such as Kule, kiesetig, stekern, stuken, telen, are entirely Low German. Only a few elements from the Viennese dialect, mostly transmitted through local jokes, have taken root in Berlin. "The true Berliner" is meant to be based on a scientific foundation but is not intended to be scientific; it is aimed at born Berliners, both learned and unlearned, and is meant to bring them joy in having their native vocabulary together and perhaps recalling long-forgotten words and phrases, youthful jokes, and more.
