In the field of visual disturbances, gross simulation is almost as common as blatant exposure. The latter usually indicates the proof of a criminal act. According to common usage, a simulator is someone who knowingly feigns a symptom of illness. Thus, simulating is at least synonymous with lying. However, this only becomes punishable when it meets the criteria of fraud. When examining visual acuity at different distances and utilizing the resulting unequal data to assume simulation, it should be considered that even non-simulators often achieve significantly greater visual sharpness for near vision (ordinary reading distance) than for distance testing, even if any refractive anomalies have been corrected beforehand.
