Product details

The oldest inhabitants of Germany were Celts; they lived west of the Weser and south of the Main, resided on individual farms, had a flourishing agriculture, and enjoyed a relatively high culture. Gradually, the first wave of Germanic peoples rolled in from the east and pushed the Celts back. The Germans largely occupied the Celtic farms, turned the old inhabitants into serfs, and continued the economy on the individual farms as their masters. The author Ulrich Wendt presents a comprehensive cultural history of hunting in his two-volume work. The second volume covers the development of hunting up to the year 1850. Wendt illustrates the conditions, methods, and techniques of hunting in modern times. He describes the social, cultural, and economic significance of hunting in the different phases of modern history.
