He discusses his travel experiences in Rio de Janeiro, the onward journey to Cabo Frio, and then to Rio Grande, passing through S. Salvador dos Campos and many other places. This unique work includes illustrations and wonderful descriptions of the travel route from that time. Prince Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied (1782 - 1867) was a German explorer, ethnologist, zoologist, and naturalist. Following the example of the Humboldts, he made significant contributions to botany, zoology, and ethnology through two multi-year expeditions and their evaluation in numerous publications. In 1858, the University of Jena awarded him an honorary doctorate. The Verlag der Wissenschaften publishes historical literature by both well-known and lesser-known authors.
