Social work is deeply embedded in the respective socio-political systems of modern societies. However, social work does not simply merge into politics; rather, there are complex interactions at play. At the same time, political transformation processes are emerging that extend far beyond the central political area of social policy. This book aims to discuss current developments in social work from a political science perspective. It focuses on information, analysis, reflection, and critique. On one hand, the political science focus through which social work is reflected will be highlighted. On the other hand, the focus of social work on the development of necessary perspectives in political science will also be discussed.

Andreas Langer, Prof. Dr., is a professor of social sciences at HAW Hamburg. Tobias Sander, Prof. Dr., has held a professorship in social sciences, particularly sociology, at HAWK Hildesheim since 2023. From 2016 to 2023, he was a professor at the International University of Cooperative Education in Darmstadt. In addition to his academic work, he advises countries and municipalities in various fields of social planning. His teaching and research focus on inequality, education, and professional sociology, sociological theories, qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research, social work, and organizational development in healthcare.
