In the third volume of his memoirs, Egon Krenz completes his autobiography. He reflects on the autumn of 1989 when he became the head of state and party, his ousting from office and home, the loss of his country, and the legal disputes, including his imprisonment. When the Republic was founded 75 years ago, he was twelve years old. He not only lived through it but actively shaped it. When it collapsed 35 years ago, he lost more than just his job. He contemplates this very complicated period for other East Germans. And like them, he does not passively accept the present: Krenz remains the political person he has always been. He is a unique witness to German dual-statehood. Krenz is compelling because he is credible. His memoirs reveal the last secrets of the GDR that only he still knows.
