Few have described the subtle violence that prevailed in real-existing socialism as impressively as the East German civil rights activist and social psychologist Jürgen Fuchs (1950-99). His "Interrogation Protocols," based on his experiences during his imprisonment in the central detention facility of the Stasi in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, are both a unique literary work and a contemporary historical document. The then 26-year-old author ruthlessly revealed the inhumane treatment of the GDR towards its opponents. During his imprisonment in 1976/77, Fuchs memorized the exhausting interrogation methods and inhumane conditions he was subjected to. First published in the fall of 1977, his "Interrogation Protocols" are now considered one of the most important publications for processing the SED dictatorship.
