Given the extraordinary recognition and widespread use that Justus Perthes' pocket atlas has found not only in many schools, in the hands of both teachers and students, but also among all educated individuals, the idea arose to create a similar handy tool for the field of history, specifically for ancient history. Therefore, a series of maps of ancient geography is offered here, presented in such completeness and with equally clear and elegant execution in copperplate engraving as has not existed before. The significant richness of content, which in no way detracts from the overview, is best illustrated by the accompanying index of names, which contains no less than 7,000 names.
