The urban area of Gdańsk offers interesting conditions for a settlement geography study, as this urban settlement exhibits peculiarities influenced by its location and significance as a port and industrial city. What initially appears arbitrary and disordered reveals itself upon closer examination, considering its development and geographical conditions, to be well-founded. However, before we delve into the investigation itself, we first want to establish general guidelines, as there is a risk of fragmentation in this area. Many branches of science, particularly economics and urban planning, address this issue. The geographer's particular interest is focused on the spatial distribution and the causes of this distribution.
