Product details

The Islands of Wisdom is an intriguing work by the German writer and satirist Alexander Moszkowski that remains interesting to this day. The work was first published in 1922 and describes an expedition to unknown islands in the tradition of Daniel Defoe. Among other places, it visits the Platonic Island, the Island of Happy Conditions, and the Mechanized Island. Moszkowski uses these islands to depict various intellectual currents of his time. The societies on the islands each take one of his ideas to the extreme. The author invents, among other things, the mobile phone and anticipates the modern, highly technological society. He also creates a virtual space in which a film shows the rise of machines and the enslavement of humans. The author Alexander Moszkowski lived from 1851 to 1934. Born in Pilica, Poland, he spent most of his life in Germany.
