Product details

Ovid was the first to express the poetically intuitive idea in his Metamorphoses, particularly in Medea: to shed old blood and fill the empty veins with youthful juices. Magnus Pegelius, a professor in Rostock, born in 1547, was the first to publish the idea of transfusion in his work "Thesaurus rerum selectarum" in 1604. Raynaldus recounts that Pope Innocent VIII suffered from a severe illness for two years and often lay unconscious and without signs of life for 20 hours at a time. When all medical efforts failed, a fraudulent Jew promised a cure. He drained the blood from a 13-year-old boy and concocted a healing potion for the Pope through diabolical means. The boy died; when Innocent awoke, he ordered the condemned, criminal Jew to be executed, but the man escaped punishment.
