Chemistry is the study of the composition of substances. Its task is to understand how different substances are composed and how their differences are based on unequal composition, how they are formed, and what changes their composition undergoes under certain circumstances. It is well known that the field of intellectual pursuit referred to as chemistry did not always set the solution of this task as its primary goal, but for a long time was focused on the pursuit of other problems, for which knowledge of the composition of substances appeared as a useful tool and was therefore sought after in its own right. The artificial creation of gold and silver, the transformation of base metals into these noble metals, was considered by chemistry to be its true task from the time when it began.
