Sewer network overloads, groundwater drawdowns, and flood peaks are just a few negative impacts of sealing on the natural water balance. Recent developments regarding the revision of soil protection legislation, state water laws, and municipal wastewater regulations to promote sustainable management of soil and water highlight the increasing importance of ecological construction methods. The use of permeable pavement surfaces is becoming an essential component in managing rainwater in a more natural way and thereby reducing the far-reaching consequences of sealing. When using permeable paving systems, precipitation is intended to be absorbed directly on the surface due to their design, thus relieving the sewer system by reducing surface runoff.
