Product details

The third edition of this book has been thoroughly revised and expanded. The detailed introductory and concluding sections have been completely restructured to reflect current standards and include a diagnosis of the major denormalizations at the beginning of the 21st century. The main part contains a historical overview of concepts as well as essays on figures such as Comte, Marx, Galton, Nietzsche, and Durkheim. Normalism is defined as a specifically modern network of devices that produce regulated sectoral and general normalities. Two fundamental normalistic strategies (protonormalism and flexible normalism) are distinguished, and particularly the processes of self-normalization of modern subjects are presented: life as a (non) normal journey through symbolic curve landscapes. This corresponds to a specific type of fascination in modern literature, discussed in essays among others.
