The four or five bestsellers among the former 160 models of the German "people's camera" can still often be found at flea markets and during estate sales. It's no wonder, as almost every family had a "box" at some point. With the affordable, uncomplicated snapshot camera, usually in the 6x9 roll film format, featuring fixed focus and a shutter speed of 1/30, even those with no prior knowledge could easily get into photography. Surprisingly many of the jagged, yellowish "chamois prints" in family albums from the period between 1930 and 1960 are box photos: the girlfriend at the swimming pool, the first motorcycle, children in the garden, the family on a Sunday walk, on vacation, or - even captured with a flash - under the Christmas tree. It was a time when the entire nation began to take snapshots. The German photo industry, then the number one in the world, promoted the spread of this people's camera. Agfa launched it in a spectacular way.
