Abstract: Almost a year after the end of the Vietnam War, North and South Vietnam were reunified on July 2, 1976. Since then, the united country has been called the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Vietnam is a socialist state with a single-party government made up of members of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The official ideology of the party and the state is Marxism-Leninism. Alongside Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and the People's Republic of China, Vietnam is one of the last five countries in the world governed by communist or socialist regimes. However, socialism in Vietnam has taken on a new face in recent times. Through economic reforms, the country has changed.
