The trend towards lighter constructions and larger spans necessitates a greater consideration of the dynamic nature of the loads affecting the structural safety and usability of buildings than has been done previously. In addition to aerodynamic and seismic influences, there are also those from machinery, road and rail traffic, as well as human-induced effects, not to mention catastrophic load cases such as impacts, aircraft crashes, and others. Based on the fundamentals of dynamics, calculation and evaluation methods of varying rigor are presented and explained in a practical manner through numerous examples. The mathematical methods are detailed in an extensive appendix, and each chapter is supplemented with comprehensive references to the relevant literature.
