Colors evoke desire, aversion, sorrow, and joy. They have symbolic, descriptive, representative, analogous, or autonomous effects. The differences arise from phenomenal characteristics, individual experiences, geographically conditioned circumstances, cultural structures, as well as gender- and age-specific conventions. Color is the substance of the sensual, of sensation. When so many attributes are ascribed to colors, the obvious conclusion is that hardly any orientation is possible. It becomes critically problematic when viewers are so plagued by doubts that no one can believe in general concepts anymore. The inability to recognize the connecting patterns amidst such diversity applies not only in the realm of colors but also generally to a world that sees itself as pluralistic. Therefore, it should not be a disadvantage to open one's eyes.
