An analysis of over 130 systems in the logistics sector reveals, for the first time in such breadth, the current state and future developments of inter-organizational systems (IOS). The analysis includes systems that support business processes, specifically the transport of physical goods and their payment. With a comprehensive understanding of logistics that encompasses both goods and financial logistics, it becomes possible to identify the currently largely separate orientations of inter-organizational systems and to outline pathways towards computer-integrated logistics (CIL). Against this backdrop, this book documents existing activities and evaluates them in terms of their emergence, functionality, technical concepts, and future direction in a clear presentation.
