The present book "Introduction to Electric Energy Economics" has been developed from materials for the lecture "Electric Energy Economics and Power Plants," which I held at the Technical University of Braunschweig from 1946 to 1977, and which has since been taken over by Dr.-Ing. B. von Gersdorff, a board member of Berliner Kraft- und Licht AG, since the winter semester of 1977/78. Since the publication of the first edition in 1971, general interest in energy economic issues has significantly increased. The oil crisis of 1973 left its mark, and by the spring of 1979, with the partial scarcity and sharp rise in prices for petroleum products, the importance of a secure energy supply has become clearly evident to the public. I have tried to address this situation in the present new edition. The book has been prepared accordingly.
